Mission Statement

The mission of the UC San Diego Department of Bioengineering is "To improve health and quality of life by applying engineering principles to scientific discovery and technology innovation, and to train future leaders in Bioengineering through inspiring education and dedicated mentorship"

The Educational objective is to produce graduates with a modern bioengineering education who will:

  • Apply the central areas of bioengineering, its underlying sciences, and related technologies in a broad range of careers
  • Use strong communication, learning, and teamwork skills to facilitate bioengineering practice and continued professional advancement
  • Act professionally, ethically, and socially responsible
These objectives were established based on feedback from constituencies of the UCSD Department of Bioengineering, current students, alumni, and industry partners.
