The position of Academic Coordinator II, will serve as the Industrial Outreach Program Administrator and Educational Assessment Officer for the Department of Bioengineering. The Academic Coordinator series is an academic appointment. Appointees in this series are not members of the Academic Senate and the appointment does not lead to tenure.
This position may be expected to teach undergraduate and master's level courses such as augmenting skills and training for professional issues, and/or meet other teaching/instructional labs' technical needs. The Academic Coordinator II will lead all internship/career fair efforts (development/implementation) and will serve as the Co-Director of the Whitaker Center for Biomedical Engineering (WCBE), which is the continuation of the Whitaker Institute of Biomedical Engineering. As such, they will be responsible for fostering and enhancing interactions of the Bioengineering Department with its student organizations, industry, and the community, in collaboration with the Institute for Engineering in Medicine (IEM), with a focus on enriching the training of undergraduate and graduate students for medical and biological engineering leadership careers. This specialty covers the activities related to seeking, developing, and maintaining relationships with business entities. Additionally, the Academic Coordinator II will be the Educational Assessment Officer providing expert advice on all educational assessment matters, including but not limited to ABET, WASC, NIH Training Grants, Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program, and other degree programs’ assessment needs.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in developing curricula that address the evolving assessment needs of an Engineering department; demonstrated excellence in academic administration; and a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education.
The Academic Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing programs related to continuous improvement, as well as embodying principles that create and sustain a culture of inclusion and to support our collective goal of ensuring that students remain on a positive academic trajectory while enrolled at UC San Diego.
The Academic Coordinator is also responsible for assuring overall smooth operation of internship placement and career fairs; and, assuring availability of and access to adequate placements. The incumbent serves as the liaison to other outside groups supporting students’ needs.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates must have advanced to PhD candidacy (or equivalent degree) in Engineering, Education, or a related field at time of application.Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
The candidate must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Engineering, Education, or a related field by the start date of the position.Preferred qualifications
