POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

The position of Director of Industrial Outreach and Educational Assessments serves as the Industrial Outreach Program Administrator and Educational Assessment Officer for the Department of Bioengineering. This position is an academic appointment in which appointees administer academic programs related to the teaching and or research mission of the University. (APM-375).

This position may be expected to teach undergraduate and master's level courses involving professional issues, and/or meet other teaching/instructional labs technical needs. The incumbent will lead all internship/career fair efforts (development/implementation) and will serve as the liaison to the Whitaker Center for Biomedical Engineering (WCBE) at UC San Diego. As such, the incumbent will be responsible for fostering and enhancing interactions of the Bioengineering Department with its student organizations, industry, and the community, in collaboration with the Institute for Engineering in Medicine (IEM), with a focus on enriching the training of undergraduate and graduate students for medical and biological engineering leadership careers.

Additionally, the incumbent will be the Educational Assessment Officer, providing expert advice on all educational assessment matters and developing and implementing programs related to continuous improvement.

A successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in developing curricula that address the evolving assessment needs of an Engineering department; demonstrated excellence in academic administration; and a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Basic qualifications (Required at Time of Application)
Candidates must have advanced to PhD candidacy (or equivalent degree) in Engineering, Education, or a related field at time of application.

Additional qualifications (Required at Time of Start)
The candidate must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Engineering, Education, or a related field by the start date of the position.

Preferred qualifications
Preferred candidates would ideally have 1 yr or more of experience using the following skills

  • High-level planning, analytical, leadership, and management skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community and corporate partners.
  • Experience in hiring and supervising staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, implement, lead, manage, and evaluate projects/educational programs & initiatives.
  • University-level teaching experience preferred.
