Incoming Bioengineering

The use of scientific principles and classical engineering tools applied to biomedical problems. Topics include biomechanics, biotransport, bio-instrumentation, biomaterials, engineering design, and systems and organ physiology. The curriculum has some similarities to mechanical engineering. Graduates are prepared for jobs in the health care and medical device industries, or continue on to medical or graduate schools

High school students should apply to UCSD for direct admission into the Bioengineering major by indicating Bioengineering as their “FIRST CHOICE” of major on the UC Undergraduate Admission Application. These students will be notified directly by the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools whether they have been admitted into their desired major, based on admissions criteria and their ranking in the applicant pool. The only way for a student to become a Bioengineering major as a freshman at UCSD is to be directly admitted from high school at the time of entrance into UCSD.
