Outreach Programs
The UC San Diego Bioengineering Department's outreach programs aim to make bioengineering accessible to a broader audience and inspire future leaders in the field. The department provides research opportunities, including internships and independent study projects as well as mentorship to program participants enabling them to acquire hands-on experience in bioengineering and further develop their skills.
Initiatives are open to all eligible members of the UC San Diego campus community and does not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories.
Bioengineering Summer High School Internship
The UC San Diego Department of Bioengineering and UC San Diego Extended Studies are pleased to offer courses to high school students who are excelling in scholarship and would like to explore Bioengineering. The course offerings are based on fun, experiential, hands-on lab activities, either in person at UC San Diego or remote at home.
REU Site: UC San Diego Bioengineering Undergraduate Research
The Jacobs School of Engineering (JSOE) at UC San Diego hosts a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program to engage student participants in bioengineering research. The objectives of the program are to train undergraduates in basic research through challenging bioengineering projects performed with research mentors from our faculty. REU faculty mentors have expertise in bioengineering research and are highly supportive of engaging undergraduates in research.
