Describe your background
I graduated in 2023 from CSUSM with a BS Biotechnology degree. I started the MS in Bioengineering at UCSD in Fall 2024 as a full time student while having a full time job as a medical assistant in an allergy and asthma clinic.
Describe your involvement within the department and UC San Diego (were/are you involved in student orgs, recreation, certificate programs, internships, etc. outside of curricular requirements?)
I was a committee chair for Gender Minorities in Bioengineering and the Bioengineering Graduate Society
Have you received any outstanding mentorship or guidance during your time in the program that made an impact on your research and/or the trajectory of your career?
Dr. Engler helped me a lot when guiding me through all my core courses, and was very helpful in trying his best to allow me to shadow my top choice of specialty. He is also a very effective communicator.
What has been your favorite part about your graduate experience in the program?
I loved the clinical experience course where I was able to shadow in the operating room. I got to learn more about regenerative engineering while observing in the OR to see how bioengineering can be applied in the OR for different specialties.
If you are an Alumni from our program, what is your current role, or what are your career prospects and plans for the future?
I am currently a Medical Assistant gaining clinical experience to attend Physician Assistant school in the near future.
