Describe your background
I completed my undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering in India, and afterward, I worked for two years as a simulation engineer at Caterpillar. I have always been passionate about the medical field, which led me to pursue Bioengineering as a way to combine my interests—mechanical and medical.
Describe your area of research and/or your area of specialty
My research focuses on medical device development. As a mechanical engineer, I enjoy identifying gaps in technology and creating innovative engineering solutions. My creative side thrives in design, as it allows me to explore diverse ideas while applying rigorous engineering principles. Looking ahead, I aim to grow as a product development engineer, contributing to the design and advancement of impactful medical technologies.
Describe your involvement within the department and UC San Diego (were/are you involved in student orgs, recreation, certificate programs, internships, etc. outside of curricular requirements?)
I was part of the organizing team for Breakfast with Industry 2023 and joined some outreach programs.
Have you received any outstanding mentorship or guidance during your time in the program that made an impact on your research and/or the trajectory of your career?
My advisor, Frank Talke, has been an invaluable mentor, providing both guidance and the freedom to explore my own ideas. I was also fortunate to learn from the PhD students in my lab, who served as exceptional mentors throughout my experience.
What has been your favorite part about your graduate experience in the program?
I have enjoyed the freedom to explore different courses and interacting with students from different areas of research
Any thoughts or advice you'd like to share with prospective graduate students?
Graduate school is challenging, and one lesson I learned—albeit a bit slowly—was the importance of building a supportive community and making time to relax. Those connections and moments of balance are what truly help you navigate the journey.
If you are an Alumni from our program, what is your current role, or what are your career prospects and plans for the future?
I am joining a startup as a production development engineer. In the future, I hope to gain experience working on diverse products across different industries, continually building upon my skills and expertise.
